Sustainable communities can take many forms: large or small, urban or rural, central or remote. Their paths to sustainability are equally varied. Best practices in sustainable community development are celebrated each year with the FCM–CH2M HILL Sustainable Community Awards. The program highlights the best municipal projects that link environmental, social and economic goals.
FCM, CH2M HILL Canada, the Affordability and Choice Today (ACT) program, and Transport Canada, are pleased to sponsor the 2009 FCM–CH2M HILL Sustainable Community Awards. Municipal governments and their partners are invited to submit applications in one of the following categories: brownfields, buildings, energy, planning, residential development, transportation, waste and water. Note: The brownfields category is new this year, and the wastewater and water categories have been combined under the water category.
The 2009 Application Form is now available, along with application guidelines and case studies featuring past Award winners. Applications will be accepted until 5:00 p.m. EST on
December 11, 2008.
Winners will be recognized on FCM’s website, at an Awards reception, and on the annual FCM–CH2M HILL Sustainable Community Awards Video. The video will be shown at the 2009 Awards reception during FCM's Annual Conference and Municipal Expo™ in Whistler, British Columbia, June 5–8, 2009. The 2009 Awards DVD, featuring the award winners, will be circulated after the ceremony to over 1,600 municipal governments in Canada.
